Cats earn a Semi-Final place
Cambridgeshire Cats 21 – South Wales Warriors 7

Play-off football returned to Coldhams Common with QB Tommy Durkin leading the Cats Offence to a solid victory over the Welsh visitors, passing for 3TD’s and 195yrds adding a further 65yrds on the ground.

The Cats took the initiative with veteran WR Kinder Mann, returning from injury, hauling in 45yard pass from Durkin which he took down the sideline out running the Warrior secondary all the way to the endzone. Dougie Andrews tacked on the extra-point to give the Cats a 7 point advantage.

The Warriors retaliated with their own pass down the sideline for a score, which after the conversion tied the game at 7-7. The stalemate continued until half-time.

The Cats defence made some adjustments and some injuries to key players on the Warriors team meant that the Cats endzone wasn’t threatened for the remainder of the game. The Cats offensive unit stepped up and 2 touchdown passes to record-breaking WR Jonathan Smith sealed the game for the Cats.

The Cats now face a trip to London and the undefeated Cobra’s in the BAFL Division 2 Semi-Finals.

Cambridgeshire Cats 29 – Watford Cheetahs 0

The Cats Staged their final home game of the regular season, dedicated in memory of our departed family members.

A clean sheet was essential to maintain the Cats playoff push as the Cambridgshire Cats finished the regular season with a 29 points to nil victory over the Watford Cheetahs.

Watford entered the windswept Coldhams Common determined to spoil the Cats chances of a Bye week in the upcoming Div 2 play-offs and for the first quarter the visitors frustrated the home side into uncharacteristic incomplete passes and miscues on offence.

So the Cats turned to their ground game with huge success, ending the day with 4 players having over 50 yards rushing, the pick of the group being FS Tim Johnson moving to RB to achieve his first 100 yard game.

In his first start for the Cambridgeshire outfit American CB Henry Ward made a crucial interception to ensure the Cats got their shut-out and can progress into the play-offs nicely rested after a well deserved Bye week.

Cats Raid Bedford
The Cats travelled to Bedfordshire with the knowledge that they needed to maintain a clean sheet to hold onto the 2nd seed in the play-offs and a vital Bye week.

The freak weather didn’t prevent QB Tommy ‘TD’ Durkin leading the Cats offence with ruthless efficiency, scoring once a quarter like clockwork, with rookie FB Ali ‘Alley-cat’ Minto opening the account.

The Cambridgeshire defence completed the task at hand by keeping the Raiders out of the redzone the entire game with stand-out rookie DT Sam Nti controlling the line of scrimmage, making 10 total tackles (3.5 for a loss) and a sack.

Cats Get Rude Awakening At Colchester
The second Inter-conference match-up saw the Cats travel to Colchester, who were looking to bounce straight back to Div 1 following relegation in 2007.

Both side struggled to move the ball in the 1st quarter but the Gladiators broke the deadlock with a 41 yard run from RB Lee Beckford and never looked back scoring a total of 27 unanswered points.

The constant pressure on the Cambridgeshire QB resulted in 5 sacks and an interception of a wayward pass, returning it for a touchdown. Despite the heavy defeat RB Dom Fox shone with his 132 yards on the ground and Louis Cooke got the only points of the day for the Cats with a 23 yard touchdown reception.
